Switch from AOL to Easystreet

I'm reviewing the Easystreet Terms of Use:

http://www.easystreet.com/services/acceptable.html

It strikes me that these two sections may be of relevance to youthlib.com activities...

4.0 Email Policy

For those EasyStreet accounts running their own mail servers, we require that you disable relaying. This ensures that your mail server will not become a relay source of unsolicited email. If unsolicited email passes through your mail server, the account may be deactivated and incur EasyStreet administration charges. There is a $100 charge for every five spam abuse complaints for each incident.

7.0 Non-commercial Use

Some EasyStreet accounts, such as the Enthusiast DSL, are designated for non-commercial use. The access portion of these accounts must terminate at a non-commercial address. Web sites or other services on IP addresses of these accounts must be of a non-commercial nature. Selling of products, solicitations for business and/or exchange of funds or bartering are considered commercial uses. Domain names associated with these accounts must not be registered under company names. In questionable cases, EasyStreet's sole discretion will prevail.

Spammers hit Generator

I got notification on Jan 5 that three new comments had been posted to my Generator post, Property and Owernship - Part 3. Take a look...

The "posted by" links go to ads for paxil, levitra, and fioricet, respectively. The culprits are techno@msn.com, genchet@yahoo.com, and genchet@mail.com.

What is the appropriate action to take?

inch by inch

today: about 1 hour working on potential mail scenarios & file transfer setup
total: 5.5 hours

so it's true. we are svenATyouthlib.com, gretchinATyouthlib.com, as well as sven & gretchin at everything else on the server. :) have a better handle on mail options and they're extremely flexible: both local & remote access and all combinations thereof, using pop, imap, webmail, pine, etc etc. whee!

also i'm locally=tcsh. yes.

webdav, alas, isn't an option. we'll probably use fugu instead.

better than nothin'

time:
today: about 1 hour getting index.html up & writing about it; reorganizing some of the dev sidebar
total: 4.5 hours

the most minor amount of pagework ever, using the text sven worked on previously, but there's finally a marginally useful index.html page on youthlib.com. still much work to do, but at least people running into it won't be faced with a blank blog (i'm thinking especially of the people from the coast). round 1 site goals still apply, and i'd like to be using css instead of tables & ill-formatted text.

michael, i'm still interested in talking to you about how you were thinking of using mt as a content management tool (and i have some email identity stuff to get to, too), but in the meantime i moved all the mt files into a directory marked "mt" and changed the paths info in the weblog config files.
